To: Cyber Christ ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 14 May 96 20:17:54 GMT From: Tank Newsgroups: alt.games.mechwarrior2 Subject: Here are the MW2 and GBL cheats, easter eggs and some info. Here are some cheats and help for MechWarrior2 and Ghost Bear Legacy as of May 14, 1996. You must hold down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT while typing. For MW2: ======== blorb = Invulnerability cia = Unlimited Ammo mightymouse = Unlimited jumpjet fuel coldmiser = Heat tracking off dorcs = Meet the makers of Mech2 :-) enolagay = NUKE (destroys EVERY thing) flygirl = Adds jumpjets icanthackit = Sucessful mission idkfa = Unsucessful mission michelin = Displays boundary spheres tinkerbell = Stationary camera xray = Looks like enhanced imaging but you can see through everything hangaround = Mission doesn't end when time does zmak = Speeds up game (or so it says) meepmeep = Time compression key enabled (ctrl+F or ctrl+alt+F?) unmeepmeep = Time compression off gankem = Destroys target lairdo = Allows you to command other mechs, vehicles and dropships in the area (?... haven't confirmed this one) dei - gives some weird message... no-one knows what it means. front = Switches the rear view camera to a front view camera. tlofront = Switches back after FRONT. Type FREEBIRTHTOAD in any of the clan halls for a Warrior name and you can select any mission for that Clan in the briefing room. Trials of Grievance: Extra Mechs Go to the Star config screen of the Trials of Grievance. Change your name to Enzo or Hobbes (case sensitive) and check out the Elemental, Tarantula, and the Battlemaster (Enzo only) in the mech lab. You'll need a patch to get the Battlemaster to work, as there is a typo in the MW2.PRJ file. (DOS version only. Get a Battlemaster patch or get the v1.1 patch MECH2V11.EXE, which also fixes the right side damage bug. The Battlemaster is reported not to work in some Win95 versions as well, but DO NOT apply the DOS MECH2V11.EXE patch to the Win95 version. If you have a hex editor, you may try to edit the file MW2SHELL.EXE -- search for the string 'btllmstr' and replace it with 'bttlmstr'.) Easter Eggs: Hollo-Projector in clan halls: Click on the holo-projector to get a list of background info on Mechwarrior2 (no secret here). Now, if you click on the numbers to the left, one of them will give you a menu for info on some people who created MW2. This works in both clan halls. There is also a "plate o' shrimp" here. For GBL: ======== clark = X-ray vision kent = Invulnerability THUNDROS = Unlimited ammo (Unconfirmed!?) putz = Successful mission immortal = Same as FREEBIRTHTOAD in MW2... gives access to all missions kaboom - Nuke EVERYTHING (including yourself if you are not already invulnerable!) palex - Destroys targeted vehicle. dorcs - programmer screen Bloodnames: There are Trials of Bloodright after the last mission (orbital platform), but you must complete all missions without any failures to get to them. If you have a number next to your name on the registration screen, then a failure has been recorded and you won't get a chance to fight for a Bloodname. Backup all of the .CFG files and the ????STAR.BWD files after you complete your first Trial of Position, and after each successful mission. Restore all of these files whenever you fail a mission. You can also press ESC and Flee to do DOS before the mission ends to prevent the failure from being recorded, or use the KENT invulnerability cheat or the PUTZ cheat to complete all missions successfully. Easter Eggs: Ice Hall: Click on the Light on the left side of the screen Barracks: Click on the poster on the right side of the screen in front of the mission computer projector. Drop Ship: Click on the white computer screen to the right of the mission computer. Notes: ====== Your warrior info is stored in the file MW2REG.CFG. Backup this file if you want to delete the game but want to retain your save game info. Also, custom mechs are stored in the \MECH2\MEK directory (or \GBL\MEK) so back- up all files in that directory to save your mech designs. Sidewinder 3D Pro Users: ======================== For those with the DOS version using a Sidewinder 3D Pro, the digital drivers were not included with the original version. Go to Activision's forum (GO GAMBPUB) and download MECH2V11.EXE, which contains an upgrade patch and the newest DOS drivers. Also, GBL does not include the digital drivers for the 3D Pro. To use them with GBL, move or delete all of the files in the \GBL\GIDDI directory, and then copy all of the files in the \MECH2\GIDDI directory to \GBL\GIDDI (you must remove the old files first, not just copy over them). (This assumes that you have the digital drivers installed in MW2 already.) Then go into Cockpit Controls and select the SW 3D Pro driver. For Win95 users, if you loose the throttle or rudder with the SW 3D Pro, go into the Win95 controller setup and see if the throttle or rudder is greyed out (unavailable). If so, then re-install the Win95 drivers for the SW 3D Pro (this is a problem with Win95 and the SW 3D Pro, not a MW2 problem). You may have to re-install more than once until the throttle and rudder become available again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks to Justin Pierce, Todd Ellsworth, Perry Lucas, Eugene Pitts, Paveway, Art Naylor, Will Day, Loke Teng Yang and anyone else that I may have missed.
