As a fat old biker with no wind and a vast appetite, I think that a very
large number of healthy young bikers with diving gear and licenses and I
ought to hold a minigather anywhere at or near the coast of Northern
California at any time convenient to them.

I'll bring the cooktops and poodles,

Martin

I'm there in spades (and neoprene). I'll work up a date and location. Would the dessert
society be interested in attending in any capacity? (Oh please?) Chocolate ab fondue?

Ash

I've got a better place. Jughandle Farm. It's a Victorian farm house
between Fort Brag and Mendocino. It's run like a youth hostle for older
kids like us. The cost is around $10 a night plus an hour of work on the
place like sweeping the floors or cleaning the showers. The place is all
party area on the first floor and all sleeping on the second. It has a
huge kitchen with a monsterous industrial refrigerator, a huge Wolf gas
range and two sinks. The kitchen is also stocked with cookware,
servingware, plates silverware and wine glasses. There's a large diningroom
table in
the diningroom/familyroom, a wood burning stove, living room with piano
and library. There are also three cottages. Last time I was there, we
booked the whole place for my 35th birthday. We can do that. I get the
Meadow Cottage.

I propose October 3rd as the date. If the ab divers agree, I'll book
the place (assuming we can get it for that date). Maybe we can get Lissa
to fire-breathe to light the barbeque.

I think that a poll ought to be taken of people willing and qualified
to slaughter helpless abalones, and the date selected to maximise the
population thereof (thus optimizing the fat-old-wheezing-programmer to
yummy-shellfish ratio).

Since the last time I had my whole head under water I was about 18
(and it was _warm_), I'll go along with whatever works.

Ride safe, eat courageously,

Martin

Jughandle Farm is right next to Jughandle State Reserve where most of
the publically accesible pygmy forrests are. There's a stand of pygmy
redwoods there that I'd like to find. There's also a beach right across
the street (the "street" is Hwy 1). A drive out to the point where it's
more rocky takes about five minutes. The bar in the tiny town on that
road serves some of the rarest Congnac you can find, and also serves
Germain-Robin.

I just re-discovered I have a wedding to go to on October 4th. So
my all-new, up-to-date proposed weekend is October 10th. Otherwise
we'll have to convince Martin AndWife to hold the Cookoff between
Fort Brag and Mendocino. I've always thought Jughandle Farm would be
the perfect place for a Halloween party.

Steven Peltier writes:

>How many can the Farm accomodate?

About thirty or so in beds (bring your own linens).

>Will there be enough chores for all of us to pay up?

Yes.

>Are there any rooms at the main house, or is it really communal?

Yes and yes. There are a few single rooms, a few doubles and a
bunkroom with about six beds. The cabins can sleep two couples
each but they're more comfortable with one couple per cabin.

>How many people do we need to book the whole place?

A minimum of twelve as I remember.

Precisely. How many people can show up on the weekend of October 10th
to feed Martin yummy-shellfish and how many would prefer Martin to move
the cookoff to Jughandle Farm so we can feed Martin yummy-shellfish?
