Too late,

PS If you're VERY fortunate, next year's BOSS will insist on catering
the whole thing, for your protection. If not, I have a recipe for twelve
gallons of gumbo.

And what fun would an entire catered weekend be? It's easy to make large
batches of tasty food for little money; many countries have been doing
it for centuries. I'm envisioning things already...rice...fried...many
many things in it...spinach lasagna...fajitas.... Damn I was in Europe
too long.

Waaaay too late. It was too late the first time I heard you weren't
cooking next year, and that was days before the Gather.

Let it be understood right here and now, that I thought the BBQ was
UNBELIEVABLY GOOD. It's the best catered BBQ I ever ate, and in fact
ranks up there with the best BBQ I ever ate *period*. Good BBQ needs
no sauce.

But you have to understand about me, my good friend, that I am
pathologically unable to decline any kind of challenge. I have
a year to figure out how I'm going to feed 180 hungry bikers a
really amazing and delightful meal, and by gum (not necessarily
by gumbo), I'm going to do it.

Right. We have a team. Evil Plotting In Secret (tm) will commence
anon. But let it be known that the BA-CA WL contingent will be cooking
for next year's Gather, wherever and whenever it may be, and whoever

Sounds like a volunteer to me. :-)

Keep in mind there is more than the food...ie. the prep at home, the
utensils, cookers etc. and hauling it all up to where ever.

I guess we'll have to wait for BJET's comments but I was impressed with
watching a big truck drive up, set up and serve some pretty good stuff and
wave goodby while everyone was laughing their asses off at the awards
ceremony, BJET included. Its not the same as home cookin but way way
easier.

It was the same as *our* home cooking :-) Actually, it was wonderful to
have both the cooking prep and the clean-up done by someone else. There
are always plenty of Gather volunteers, but the sheer volume of dirty
utensils can be pretty overwhelming n this size crowd. I also felt that
this particular caterer was EXCEPTIONAL. The food was fresh,
well-prepared and served in a really efficient manner. BJet did a fabulous
job in finding them!

If the Gather is held in Northern California next year, anywhere near the coast, I'd be happy to score some abalone and fishies for us. I'd also be happy to teach others what freediving teknique I know. They'd have to get a liscense and ab stamp to nab ab's though... well worth it. Imagine, 5 or 6 of us could feed a ton of people abalone. Not to mention fish. Plus, let's face it, all of Califonia is the 'Dry Side' when compared with Seattle. Fried ab, grilled ab, paoched ab; ab gumbo, ab kabobs, ab sandwiches, rack of ab, ab a la mode, ab marsala, ab con funghi... think of the possibilities.

As a fat old biker with no wind and a vast appetite, I think that a very
large number of healthy young bikers with diving gear and licenses and I
ought to hold a minigather anywhere at or near the coast of Northern
California at any time convenient to them.

I'll bring the cooktops and poodles,

Abalone is truly one of the Foods of the Gods. This is the best argument

LeighAnn,
So, seeing as I've committed to this, and I'm rather certain that
we'll need to truck a lot of stuff, you can plan on my truck being
available. Maybe we need to figure out a 55 gallon drum as a pork cooker...
