Professional Summary

I have been with Microsoft for over seven years, in positions ranging from text prep on Encarta Virtual Globe and program manager overseeing Windows 98 partners, to desktop publishing lead for the Windows 2000 Resource Kits, and, most recently, Web producer for the Windows Server sites on Microsoft.com.

Experience

Web Producer

November 2000–Present

Windows Server Web Sites
Contractor with ArtSource, Inc., January 2003–Present

  • Played a lead role in migrating Microsoft Web sites from ASP to MNP 2.5 (XML), including Microsoft Communities, Windows Server Community, and Microsoft Management. These projects were completed on schedule before tools and documentation were released. I created producer documentation and provided feedback to the development group on new tools. My experience with this migration has made me the go-to person for site teams that have yet to migrate their sites. I provide assistance in setup, tagging, and troubleshooting code and server errors.
  • As producer for the Windows Server Community, I was first to implement the latest Web-based newsgroup reader and the related dynamic user interface components on the Windows Server Community.
  • I supported the migration and restructuring of the Windows Storage site from one site into three individual site-lets in time for the launch of Windows Storage Server 2003. I advised on work-flow planning, scheduling, and next steps.

Vendor, Artsource, Inc., January –June 2002

  • Working with Products.com, I worked remotely from my home in Coeur d’Alene, ID, and was responsible for ongoing publishing tasks for the Windows 2000 Web sites while the core team in Redmond focused on special projects. I also assisted the Microsoft Servers team with their site migration to VID v1.0.

Microsoft Full-Time Employee, November 2000–January 2002

  • As a full-time employee in Products.com, I was responsible for all ongoing publishing during the migration of the Windows 2000 site into VID v1.0, supporting dual publishing in both old and new templates to ensure consistency and to provide a dramatically improved customer experience. I was an active member of the page-types team that determined the layout and function of specific pages across all product sites. I took ownership of publishing more than 2,000 pages along with the other 3,000 supporting files to the live servers at launch time and coordinated this launch with program management, development, test, and site management. I also assisted site management in planning the Windows Server 2003 site at Beta1, and launched the product’s first Web presence.

Desktop Publishing Lead

September 1998–November 2000

Windows 2000 Resource Kits

  • I started as a contract desktop publisher on the Windows UA team, formatting user documentation for print and online deliverables of the Windows 2000 Resource Kits. I was promoted to a lead position and tasked with building a team of desktop publishers. I coordinated with editors and desktop publishers to produce content in Online Help and Web formats. Once processes were set up and with a full team on board, I was hired as a full-time employee in May 2000 as production lead for the SMS 2.0 Resource Kit.

Assistant Program Manager

September 1997–March 1998

Windows 98 Operating System

  • As Assistant Program Manager on the Windows 98 team, I was the liaison between the operating system build and test teams and more than fifty partners whose bits were included in the operating system. I tracked bug fixes and issues, and was the point of contact for potential new partners. I maintained communication between all teams involved.

Lead Text Prep

May 1995–September 1997

Encarta Virtual Globe

  • My first contract at Microsoft was as a text prepper, responsible for inserting SGML code into all content used in Encarta Virtual Globe, an interactive atlas reference product. As the team grew, I was promoted to lead, where I coordinated tasks among the text preppers, coordinated handoffs from editorial, and handoffs to the build teams. I was also in charge of communicating with the development team to help troubleshoot and improve tagging tools and content management tools.
